Job Description: ATSI Collaborative Assistant will provide additional time for special education teachers and general education teachers to collaborate on how to best guarantee high levels of on-grade-level instruction for all students by discussing specific needs and instructional strategies for students. Special education teachers will provide job-embedded professional learning for general education teachers through co-teaching and modeling best practices for accommodating and supporting students with disabilities. The collaborative assistant will also provide additional support for students by working with small groups and/or individuals per their IEP. Assistants will be paid on the 190 day calendar so they can participate in meetings and professional development provided to teachers. This is a grant funded position for the 23-24 school year only.

 

Requirements for the position:

  

At the Middle Level:  Employee will be paired with Academic Support, or with a general education teacher providing Tier 2 intervention within the general education classroom. Employee will also cover to facilitate collaborative planning between ELA/Math and Special Education teachers.

 

Additional Duties:

Position will be required to keep a log, this log will be provided by the district.

 

Minimum Education and Training:

Applicant must have a 2-year associate degree, or 60 semester hours of college course work, or taken and passed the ParaPro Assessment; or a 4-year degree

 

Physical Requirements:

Requires the ability to apply rational systems to solve practical problems, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists, and to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic or schedule form. Requires the ability to apply influence systems in managing a staff, to learn and understand principles and techniques, to make independent judgments in absence of supervision, and to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Must have the ability to comprehend and interpret received information.
Verbal Aptitude:
Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow and give verbal and written instructions, and to counsel and teach students. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently with persons of varying educational backgrounds.
Numerical Aptitude:
Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, to multiply and divide, to determine percentages and decimals, and to determine time. Must be able to use practical applications of fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion.
Form/Spatial Aptitude:
Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape, and visually read various information.
Motor Coordination:
Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes using office machinery, and to operate motor vehicles.
Manual Dexterity:
Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, office equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination.
Color Discrimination:
Does not require the ability to differentiate colors and shades of color.
Interpersonal Temperament:
Requires the ability to deal with people beyond giving and receiving instructions. Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations or tight deadlines.
Physical Communication:
Requires the ability to talk and/or hear with talking defined as expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words and hearing being defined as perceiving nature of sounds by ear.
